Applications:

7-segment displays are widely used in applications requiring numerical output, including:

  • Digital Clocks: Displaying time in hours, minutes, and seconds.
  • Calculators: Presenting numerical calculations and results.
  • Meters and Gauges: Indicating measurements such as voltage, current, or temperature.
  • Odometers: Showing vehicle mileage or distance traveled.

Types of 7-Segment Displays:

  1. Common Cathode (CC): In these displays, all the cathode connections of the LED segments are joined together and connected to ground. Each segment is illuminated by applying a high (logic 1) signal to its anode, forward-biasing the LED.

  2. Common Anode (CA): Here, all the anode connections of the LED segments are joined together and connected to a positive voltage (e.g., +5V). To illuminate a segment, a low (logic 0) signal is applied to its cathode, forward-biasing the LED.
